The legendary General Ozzy was involved in a fatal road traffic accident that occurred on, February 14, 2026, around 16:40 hours in Machinga area, about 12 kilometers south of Monze Town.
Zambia Police Service has issued a police statement.

FATAL ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT IN MONZE
February 14, 2026 – The Zambia Police Service in Monze District recorded a fatal road traffic accident that occurred today, February 14, 2026, around 16:40 hours in Machinga area, about 12 kilometers south of Monze Town. The accident involved two motor vehicles: a Toyota Lexus, registration number BLD 3803ZM, and a Toyota Axio, registration number BAD 7178.
The Toyota Lexus was driven by Benjamin Phiri (42) of Lilayi, Lusaka, who was driving toward Chisekesi at the time of the accident. He sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to Monze Mission Hospital.
A passenger in the Lexus, David Banda (45) of Silverest Area, Lusaka, a musician popularly known as “General Ozzy,” also sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to Monze Mission Hospital.
The Toyota Axio was driven by Michael Nyirenda (55), a police officer of Site and Service Compound, Monze District. He sustained fatal head injuries and died on the spot. The body of the deceased has been deposited at Monze Mission Hospital Mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.
A passenger in the Toyota Axio, Mwiya Munalula (45), a police officer of Manungu Residential Area, Monze District, sustained minor injuries. She was treated and later discharged from Monze Mission Hospital.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occurred when the driver of the Toyota Lexus improperly attempted to overtake a truck, resulting in a head-on collision with the oncoming Toyota Axio, which had the right of way.
The Zambia Police Service conveys its condolences to the family of the deceased officer and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
