Born on the 22nd of June 2004 in Sesheke District of Western Province in Zambia, 21-year-old singer/songwriter David Mutemwa (aka Dayy) is one of Zambia’s biggest upcoming Afrobeat crossover acts.
He was discovered through TikTok and Facebook vines by Zambian songwriter and entertainment executive Andrew Ignatius Mwanza (aka Drew), and later officially signed to Eagle Vibes Records (EVR) a new Zambian record label focused on developing natural local talent for the global market.
On 15th September 2025, Dayy released his debut single “Kwenachoka”, marking the beginning of his professional journey and setting the stage for more music projects to come.
Dayy began his career in music when he was just six years old. In his early teenage years, he performed as a lead vocalist for the Fresh View Band in Mongu, where he also played guitar and other percussion instruments.
His sound blends Afrobeat with touches of RnB and Pop, creating a unique ultra-Afro pop fusion that is deeply addictive.
He draws musical inspiration from global stars like Ed Sheeran, Mlindo the Vocalist, and Fireboy.
With Zambia yet to fully claim its share of global dominance in the music industry, new wave artists like Dayy are redefining the nation’s authentic sound by fusing it with modern Afrobeats. Dayy is, without doubt, a legend in the making.
